Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire in Stowmarket, you must be at least 21 years of age, though age restrictions may vary based on the vehicle selected. A valid driving licence for the appropriate category is required, held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, you must present valid identification, proof of your current address, and provide payment details along with a security deposit. Be sure to review any further requirements detailed in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Options
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Stowmarket location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance, along with a security deposit, is usually payable at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as it was when collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. The vehicle must also be returned with the same level of fuel as when it was picked up; failure to do so will result in refueling fees. Late returns can lead to extra charges, so please notify us promptly if you anticipate being late. You will be liable for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Overview

Additional insurance options may be offered to help limit your financial liability. It’s important to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless you opt for additional insurance. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse will be your responsibility, regardless of any insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ depending on the booking type and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Use:
- The vehicle may not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle must not be used for purposes it is not intended for, nor should you exceed passenger or weight limits. Driving outside of the agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization is also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Stowmarket will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount you paid for your rental in the past year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. All disputes will be resolved within the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
